Numbers Don't Lie
The "Numbers Don't Lie" underage and binge drinking awareness media campaign is a countywide effort to draw attention to the issues and effects caused by underage and binge alcohol consumption.

According to the 2006-2008 California Healthy Kids Survey, underage and binge drinking behaviors among Ventura County youth have been consistently higher than that of youth statewide.

Unfortunately, many youth that are involved in these behaviors are not fully aware of the potential dangers until a tragedy strikes someone close to them. Also unfortunate is a parental view of drinking as a "right of passage."

The purpose of this media campaign is to create an awareness about the dangers of alcohol use, abuse, and potential for physical dependence.

Based on a similar and successful 2004-2006 campaign in San Diego, Ventura County FNL youth adapted the concept for use in our community.

The youth also found the facts for the posters by researching reliable government resources including the Center for Disease Control, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, and the National Institute on Drug Abuse.

Lastly, rather than hiring professional models, the youth participants elected to pose for the posters themselves so as to represent their commitment to their community and their choice to lead an alcohol and drug-free lifestyle.

These posters are available at no-cost to any community-based organizations or local merchants that wish to post them. All posters are available in both English and Spanish.

For more information on this project, how to get involved, or how to obtain these posters, please feel free to contact us.
